this is art.
This is both a process of discovery and a form of communication. Whether through Ceramics, Painting, Collage or Printmaking, I aim to create pieces that resonate emotionally and intellectually, offering space for the viewer to find their own meaning.
I believe that art and the creative process explores the relationship between memory, imagination, observation, cultural narratives, personal narratives and the quiet moments in between. I'm drawn to materials, techniques, concepts, layered textures, expressive color and mixed media using them as a means to question, reveal, or transform the familiar in a new way of seeing.
My journey began early as a young observer within a family of creative spirits.
I pursued education in the fine arts graduating from Colorado State University with a BFA and a certification in visual arts education. I next pursued study in graduate school receiving an MFA from Pennsylvania State University.
Considering one of my best works of art, 'teaching', I have worked as a visual arts educator for over 50 years. As an educator, I see art as both practice and pedagogy - a tool for inquiry, empathy, and transformation. I teach what I live: creativity thrives in multiplicity, and that true learning happens when we get our hands dirty and our minds open.
